The Florida Strawberry Festival dates back to 1930 when the Plant City Lions Club decided they needed an event to celebrate the bountiful harvest of the Strawberries. The Lions Club and other civic organizations have participated in the Florida Strawberry Festival throughout its history. The festival took a 6-year hiatus around World War II but was reactivated in 1948 with the efforts of the American Legion post #26.
