The Plaza Theatre is the best in Family-Friendly Live Theatre in downtown Orlando, Florida.
It originally opened November 20th of 1963 and was nicknamed the “Rocking Chair Theater” by the locals because of the rocking chair movie seats.
Long before the movie mega-plex, the Plaza Theatre gained popularity as Orlando’s first and only two-screen movie theater. Small by today’s standards for a movie theater, the Plaza Theatre underwent major interior renovations in 1996 and is now a venue for live performances.
Today, you might find an Off Broadway Show, Musicals, Seminars, Local Productions, Music Groups, or Touring Shows gracing the stage at the Plaza Theatre.
There are 2 stage areas and the main stage area seats approximately 900 with the smaller stage area seating 272. Both stage areas can accommodate guests in wheelchairs and ADA compliant restrooms are available.
The building is a non-smoking facility, but they will allow you to go outside to smoke then come back in to the theater.
A concession stand is on-site and they sell beer and wine along with sodas, water, coffee, and tea. Packaged food and candy items are also available.
